If you are a new business you may wish to start by choosing
the name you would like for your web site domain. Generally - the shorter
the better. You may well have to give this name over the telephone, so the
less spelling out you have to do the less chance for mistakes. However, Google
'reads' your domain name, so it is an extra opportunity to tell the search
engines what is in the website. If
you do not already have a domain name [that is the web address for your website,
e.g. this website domain is www.asplash.com] you can choose to purchase here
through SCL at £9.99
for co.uk and £29.99
for .com and .net for two years.
By purchasing your domain name, you are not tied to aSplash or any hosting
company, you are just securing the domain you will use for your business.
aSplash can register this name for you if you prefer, and it will only be
purchased on your behalf.
We recommend that you purchase both the .co.uk and the .com of your chosen name because:
- If you spend any money advertising your web address and either you or the printer or the person reading your advert, type in co.uk rather than .com [or vice versa] some other business could be benefiting from your investment.
- If you intend your marketing to be international, as most website's are, .com ensures that your domain will be recognised world wide, and .co.uk ensures that UK based searches will be more effective
- The costs are only for the name which is registered for two years, you do not require two websites, one will lead to the other. See for example www.asplash.com and www.asplash.co.uk [which will re-direct to the .com]
Site Ownership
Once your website is fully paid for it belongs to you and you have all access to the site content, design and code. This is for use on the domain for which it was built and cannot be resold. aSplash are not responsible for site content including text, links to other sites, logos, images, video and other media used on the site.
