Which
Shopping Carts can be integrated with the PSP’s
aSplash.com Ltd have two recommendations for shopping carts which can either
be fully integrated with your bank or enable you to log on and process credit
card payments manually. In either case you should have an Online Merchant
ID.
Mal’s e-commerce can be integrated
with ProtX, Secpay and Worldpay at a charge of $6 US per month payable
3 months in advance or they make no charge if you wish to process the credit
card payments yourself or if you wish to use Pay
Pal or NoChex.
If you want to keep a copy of the shopping cart on your computer and you
want to make changes to the shop yourself:
Actinic [either Catalog or Business] can be integrated with ProtX, Secpay
and Worldpay, PayPal or NoChex
Hosting your shopping cart
The final piece of the jigsaw is to have your online shop hosted with a hosting
company who support your particular shopping cart and payment gateway,
and who will take responsibility for keeping the scripts associated with
the cart current.
aSplash.com Ltd recommend hosting with www.scl.co.uk who
are resellers for Actinic Catalog or Actinic Business and integration with
ProtX for any shopping cart option where a complete integration is required.
Reductions in costs are available if you purchase Actinic and your hosting
online at www.scl.co.uk and you can complete
your online application for ProtX on the same site.
If you choose Mal then secure hosting is not required for the shop, but we
would still recommend hosting your website with SCL who will ensure the security
of your data and provide secure access to the administration of your shop.
Please note: The information is correct at the time of writing, the charges and banks account details each payment service provider accepts are subject to change by the payment service provider, see the payment service providers website for full details.
If you need any more information or help with online credit card payments or your online business please contact aSplash and we would be more than happy to help.
What Do I Need To Accept Credit Card Payments Online?
To accept Credit Card Payments online you will need to obtain an Internet
Merchant Account and an Online Payment Services Provider (PSP).
An
Internet merchant account is an account with a financial institution that
enables you to accept payments over the Internet. This is distinct and
separate to any merchant account that you may already have with a bank.
Before you can accept credit cards online, you must obtain an Internet
merchant account that will work with the payment method you chose to accept
on your Web site. Internet merchant accounts can be from your own bank
or any other bank of your choice.
To apply for an Internet merchant account you must first decide who you are
going to use to accept payments on your web site as this information will
be needed to process your application. Applying for an Internet merchant
account will take typically 3-4 weeks.
A Payment Service Provider acts as a gateway between your
e-commerce system and the banks. The PSP takes payment details from your customer,
checks the details with the appropriate bank, and sends the result of the check
back to your system. Authorization or rejection of the transaction is completed
within seconds, so you know whether or not to proceed with your customer's
order. The PSP also takes care of the final settlement of the transaction (i.e.
when the money is paid into your merchant account).
There are many Payment Service Providers available to UK based businesses.
The main PSP’s for the UK are
- Worldpay *
- Protx
- Secpay
- Datacash
- Netbanx *
- Secure Trading
- Barclays EPDQ **
- HSBC Secure EPayments CPI ***
* Whereas most payment services providers will only accept
online credit card transactions from web sites that have an Internet Merchant
account Worldpay and Netbanx do not require you to have one. Worldpay and
Netbanx will provide you with an online merchant account if you do not have
one with an acquiring bank.
** Barclays EPDQ can only be used with an Internet merchant
account from Barclays.
*** You must have an HSBC Bank Business Account or have
had an HSBC card processing relationship for at least a year.
How to Choose an Online Payment Services Provider
How
much will it cost?
One of the main concerns when choosing an Online Payment Service Provider
is the cost. The processing costs for each Payment Service Provider are shown
below:
These charges are separate from the charges from your acquiring bank. If

You require a Business account with them. No merchant account required see
their website for current costs, mostly free but has been taken off line
a few times due to security issues.
NoChex
NOCHEX allows you to accept instant, guaranteed,
low cost payments from anyone with a UK credit/debit card. Making it ideal
